How It Works

When I have read a book, I mark it with a blue pen across the top. Above, you can see four such books. Then the books go out to the book bin twice a month, on the 1st and the 15th.

Every now and then someone drops some of their books into the book bin. I am glad that they do not toss them into a garbage truck, because Second Use For Everything is a passion in my life. When I bring in books that have not moved in the past fortnight, I pull out the unmarked books and read them, before marking them and putting them outside.

With that first thousand books (fifty cartons stacked two deep across my guest room floor) I sorted through the books twice, pulling out books that I wanted for my personal collection. Too much work.

In Future, I shall just take books from the cartons (stacked ten deep!) one carton at a time.
